A PLACE OF GOLD COVERED IN HELL
Oftentimes in life, we want things that appear to be “covered in gold” and they present themselves as the best of the best, but in reality, we are so blinded by the outside appearance that we can’t truly see what’s underneath the surface. A prime example of this was Abraham’s nephew Lot. Lot was a man who was more interested in self-gain and his selfish desires than the people around him, causing him to chase after the next big thing or anything that allowed him to come into more pleasures of this world that gave him more riches.
There came a point where Abraham and Lot had to separate to stop any further conflicts between their herdsmen as both men continued to acquire more assets. When they were going over the land Lot decided to take the land that appeared to be more fertile and had better water flow for pastures, but the land he chose included Sodom and Gomorrah. The very thing that looked like “gold” would be a place of ravaging sin and he would be right in the middle of it.
If you know the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, then you know God DESTROYED everything and everyone in it due to its wickedness. Lot fortunately was spared from that destruction but before that Lot and his family were kidnapped along with every possession from one of the kings that was fighting for territory. Because Lot was so concerned about the things that he could gain, he never stopped to look deeper and consider all angles before making such a huge decision. Lot was in a city of gold but it was covered in hell.
In life, we will always be faced with opportunities to gain things from this world, but as believers, we must CONSIDER THE COST. Everything that looks good is not good for us and we have to use wisdom on this spiritual journey so we can make sure we are in alignment with God and where he wants us to be. Before making hasty decisions, include God in your planning so you don’t end up like Lot. Lot could have bypassed a lot of extra foolishness had he not been so caught up in his selfish desires, which not only affected him but his entire family.
Matthew 16:26 says“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?” ESV
BE WISE PEOPLE OF GOD, AND CHECK YOUR DESIRES, DON’T GAIN THE WORLD AND LOSE YOUR SOUL.
